Its that time of the year when you have to decide what you are going to do at the trade deadline. This decision is based entirely on where you stand in the playoff hunt. If you are in the hunt for winning your division then its a know brainer, find out what you might need for the stretch and go get it.
For teams like the Phillies this is where it gets tough, on the outside looking in. They are not in the hunt for the division, losing 18 out of the last 24 took care of that. They are not completely out of the wild card hunt, but they are not showing any signs of being interested in winning the wild card. Now the arguments start should they be buyers or sellers at the trading deadline. I’ve read and heard local reporters and make some good points, as a Phillies fan I think it time for them to sell.
There are only 2 untouchable players on this team, Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard, everyone else is on the block. They should be able to get somebody decent for Abreu and Burrell, but for everyone else on the block its take what you can get, they probably won’t get much. The week after the All-Star break will tell them what to do, if its the same as it is now, the Sell!
