Another
season has come to a very disappointing end for the Phillies and their fans. It ended just like like the last few years, making a run for a playoff spot. There will be the usual calls to fire the manager, sure but he only gets half the blame, the other half goes to the players. There will be arguments over what the Phillies still need. There will be calls forPat Burrell to be traded. Sign someone to hit behind Ryan Howard, change the batting order and so on. Give Pat Gillick credit, unlike Ed Wade, Gillick made some moves to help the Phillies try to get in the playoffs after the trade deadline when the Phillies traded Bobby Abreu. If the Phillies don’t think they need to make changes going into next season, there is one thing they must do. Make sure the players know the season starts in April not after the All-Star break. If they want to make the playoffs they have to realize getting off to a better start at the beginning of the season will help in the long run. They might not have to try and win every game down the stretch, and might not have to rely on help from other teams. Just start next season the way you ended this one, think every month is September. They could be in a better position to control their own destiny. You now have five months to think about it.
