There was a Division III basketball game played on Saturday that begs the question thats in the title of this post. Lincoln University in Pa. played a school from Ohio, Ohio State-Marion. The final score of the game was Lincoln 201 – Ohio State-Marion 78. The major problem with this is Ohio State-Marion only dressed six players, there is no way you can say they didn’t deliberately try to run up the score. The score at halftime was 97-44, if they weren’t trying to run up the score they wouldn’t have sored 104 points in the second half. Yes, the coach of Lincoln emptied his bench, but when you are playing a team with only six players dressed why not slow it down, did you really need to make the score that bad?
I’m just wondering if anyone on Lincoln stopped and thought what if it were us getting beat like this. There is a time for sportsmanship, and this was definitely one of those times. Lincoln didn’t need to score that many points in the second half, they didn’t need them. A part of sportsmanship is knowing when to call off the dogs, then again it doesn’t look like Lincoln University has any clue as to what sportsmanship is, if they did the score wouldn’t have been this bad. Maybe Lincoln should play a Division 1 school like, Duke, Florida, North Carolina , ohio St., UCLA, then maybe you would know what its like.
