Philadelphia Eagles – Draft

Everyone has an opinion on how their team did in the draft. The Sports Den is no different. The Sports Den isn’t going to announce itself as an draft expert, if we were we would be a GM somewhere in the NFL. This is just a fans opinion on the Eagles draft picks.

Kevin Kolb – QB Houston. 6’3′ 220 lbs. – The Eagles surprised just about everyone by trading down and taking him with their first pick in the second round. There are a couple of reasons for that. One is the recent injuries to Donovan McNaab, and the other is it gives the Eagles leverage when they go to renegotiate the last 2-3 years of McNaab’s contract if they have to. We read the reports on him. Started all 4 years at Houston. They say he is smart knows how to read a defense, and coverages. In 2006 he ranked fifth in the nation in passing efficiency rating (162.72), eighth in total offense (280.07 ypg), and sixth in passing yards (3,809). Any problems he has can be corrected with practice. the Sports Den’s impression is he is a Jeff Garcia type QB, a little bigger.

Victor Abiamiri – DE Notr Dame.6′-5″ 271lbs. – Played football, basketball, and track in HS. Could be a good pass rusher, could help out on D-line this year. This draft pick could mean the end of Jerome McDougall. They say he needs to work on his technique, but then again who doesn’t coming out of college and into the pros.

Stewert Bradley – OL Nebraska. 6-4 256 lbs. – Played strong side LB at Nebraska, everything we read or heard say he is a productive player when he is on the field. The problem is he is injury prone. Tore his ACL in 2005. Good against the run and short passing game. Not a big hitter. Smart. Good size for a LB. Could possibly have an impact this season. At the time of this post it was announced the Eagles released LB Dhani Jones.

Tony Hunt – RB Penn St.6’0 230 lbs. – Good choice here gives the Eagles the short yardage power back that they needed. Won’t break too many big runs, thats what Westbrook is for. This pick should mean the end of Ryan Moats as an Eagle. Should help out this season.

C.J Gaddis – Clemson CB/S 6’0 210 lbs. – Will probably play Safety rather than CB. they say he needs work with pass coverage. Good against the run big time hitter. Needs to learn the position, it should help a lot learning from Brian Dawkins.

Brent Celek -Cincinnati TE 6’4″ 261 Lbs. – Form reading the reports on this guy he needs alot of work. Has problems blocking and on downfield routes. Godd in short routes. Might be a long shot to make the team.

Rashad Barksdale – Albany CB 6-2 210 lbs. very little information on this guy. the only info we found was that his stock went up the last three weeks before the draft. Not too many people thought he would get drafted. A definite slepper. Definetely like his size for a CB.

Nate Ilaoa– Hawaii FB/RB 5-8 248 lbs. If he makes the team it will be at FB. He is a definite project, needs work picking up blitzes. They say he has decent hands, and with his size is hard to bring down. Has had problems in the past with his weight. If he does make the team it will be another need the Eagles filled.
