Let The Sports Den start of with this by saying this. The Sports Den tips their hat to Oscar Pistorius for overcoming his disability or handicap depending on what you want to call it. Its great that he can compete using prosthetics. With that said the ruling that the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) ruled that he could compete for a place in the Olympics. The IAAF ( International Assocoation of Athletics Federation) previously ruled that he could not compete the reason being his prosthetics gave him an unfair advantage.
Depending on who you listen to there isn’t an advantage, others say there is. If you want to get real picky there is an advantage. Pistorius won’t have to worry about pulling a calf muscle or possibly spraining an ankle will he? I know thats just nitpicking. It woulsd be interesting to here the excuses if he were to make it and win a race if someone fell to the track after suffering leg cramps or spasms that he didn’t have to worry about. Would that be fair?
What is this guy trying to prove? Isn’t the Paralympics the same as the Olympics, the only difference being the obvious? (Check Picture) Pistorius holds the Paralympic record in the 400 meters at 46.56. The Olympic qualifying standars is 45.55. If he doesn’t make it does it mean we have to change the qualifying time so he can?
Who knows whats going to happen in the long run, maybe nothing or maybe all we will be doing is changing the name of the Olympics to the Paralympics. Oops we already have them don’t we.
