NLCS
L.A. Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies – This is the something old part since this will be the fourth time these two teams have met for the NL Pennant. The Dodgers lead in this little mini rivalry 2-1, beating the Phillies for the pennant in 1977-78, and the Phillies winning in 1983.This is a pretty even match-up with the Dodgers and Phillies splitting their season series 4-4, with home field being a real advantage with the Dodgers winning four in L.A. and the Phillies winning four in Philly. An interesting twist to this series, if you want to call it that, are the 1st and 3rd base coaches for each team. Being old enough to remember back to ‘77-’78, I can remeber seein Larry Bowa playing SS for the Phillies, and Davey Lopes playing 2B for the Dodgers, which is going to make it just a little odd to see Laryy Bowa coaching 3B for the Dodgers, and Davey Lopes coaching 1B for thePhillies. Phillies fans will have some revenge on their minds when this series starts.
How They Got Here:
The Dodgers swept the best team in the NL the Chicago Cubs 3-0.
The Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1.
ALCS
Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays – The Boston Red Sox are the defending World Champs taking on the new comers to the playoffs the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays have a good young team, they won the always tough AL East. They even took the season series from the Red Sox 10-8. This should be a good series, definitely worth watching, can the upstarts from Tampa Bay knock off the defending Champs? The one funny thing about this series, the Rays changed their name from the Devil Rays to the Rays, and changed their uniforms this season and now they they are playing for the AL Pennant and chance to go to the World Series, ha, ha, go figure.
How They Got Here:
The Boston Red Sox beat the best team in the AL L.A. Angels 3-1.
The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1
