Another year is coming to an end and its time for The Sports Den to pick its 5 biggest flops in sports for 2008. There may be other flops out there that The Sports Den didn’t remeber but here are the one’s we came up with.
1. Kimbo Slice – He was billed as the greatest street brawler when he made his appearence in MMA. Unfortunately he was knocked out in :14 in a nationaly televised MMA fight, effectively ending his 15 minutes of fame.
2. Michelle Wei – She’s been called a golf phenom even though she hasn’t won anything. 2008 saw her have a lot of problems, from not winning on the women’s tour, not making the cut against the men, withdrawing from tournaments. She found herself back in Qualifying school at the end of 2008 to earn he rtour card for 2009.
3. Detroit Tigers – Picked in spring training to be one of the AL favorites to win the World Series, they finished in last place in the AL Central division behind the K.C. Royals.
4. L.A. Galaxy – Last year we picked David Beckham. This year its the team he plays soccer for. Yeah the experiment of bringing Beckham to the U.S. to make soccer popular didn’t work, and it cost the to men who came up with the idea their jos. I think it was the President, and GM of the Galaxy that were fired, we’re not sure ’cause we really don’t care about soccer, see it didn’t work. Does David Beckham still play for the Galaxy?
5. Green Bay Packers – They decided to go with Aaron Rogers as their starter and let Bret Favre go to the Jets. You understand the decision but going from one bad pass from gpoing to the Super Bowl to missing the playoffs, thats a flop.
