The Flyers can thank Antero Niittymaki fo rtheir 7-1 win ovwer the Washington Capitals on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers could have found themselves in a mjor hole if not for Niittymaki stopping all 25 Capital shots he faced in the first period, sending the Flyers into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead theanks to Joffrey Lupul. Niittymaki faced 47 shots fo rthe game and stopped 46. Jeff Carter scored twice, one a shorthanded goal, to tie him with the Sabre’s Thomas Vanek for the league lead with 24. Scott Hartnell had a hat trick, his second hat trick in 5 games, and Simone Gagne added the final goal. The Flyers were outshot 25-6 in the first period, and 48-28 for the game. This is a little different the Flyers in the past have usually outshot their opponent and lost, its good it happened to some one else this time. The Flyers have another big game on Sunday afternoon when the face the New Jersey Devils. Lets make it two in a row.
