Here’s a strange but funny story form the world of swimming, no it doesn’t have anything to do with Michael Phelps. It involves Jennifer Figge, a 56 year old American endurance swimmer. The Associated Press originally ran a story about Figge swimming a 2,500 mile stretch of the Atlantic Ocean between the Cape Verdes Islands, and the Island of Trinidad in 24 days. Yeah, smells a little fishy. Well upon further review it was revealed that it would be physically impossible for her to do that. Figge’s spokesman eventually admitted the she actually only swam about 250 miles, the rest of the time she was on a catamaran. Apparently there are no rule about this so you can say you swam when you really didn’t, just a suggestion don’t come up with a distance you physically can’t do.
