Three Philadelphia sports teams were in action on Sunday, and guess what, the Phillies, Flyers and Sixers pulled off a triple play by winning their games. I don’t remember the last time that happened. It looks like Harry Kalas made it to Heaven.
Here’s a recap.
Phillies 5 – Padres 4 – The Phillies fell behind 4-0 to the San Diego Padres before they started to make a comeback. The Phillies were down 4-3 heading into the bottom of the nineth. Ryan Howard singled setting the stage for Raul Ibanez to end the game with a 2-run home run to give the Phillies a much needed win.
Flyers 6 – Penguins 3 – The Flyers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead only to see the Penguins tie it with a goals late in the first period, and early in the second. Instead of falling apart the Flyers responded with goals by Claude Giroux, and Simone Gagne to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. Jared Ross scored his first career playoff goal to put the Flyers up 5-2. Evgeni Malkin scored his second goal of the game for Pittsburgh to cut it to 5-3, but Simone Gagne added his second goal of the game, into an empty net to ice the game.
76ers 100 – Magic 98 – If you turned the game off at the end of the third quarter then you missed one hellava comeback by the 76ers. The Sixers went into the fourth quarter trailing the Orlando Magic by 14 points, 79-65, and at one point in the fourth were down by 18. Dwight Howard left the court and went back to the locker room when the Sixers started their comeback. Donyell Marashal hit 3 huge 3 pointers for the Sixers when it looked as though the Magic were going to pull away. The Sixers trailed by 1 point when Andre Iguodala went to the free throw line with a chance to give the Sixers the lead. Iguodala missed both free throws, but redeemed himself by hitting a jump shot with 2.2 seconds left to put the Sixers up 100-98, and steal game 1 in Orlando.
