Two weeks into the NFL preseason and its time for The Sports Den to make its predictions (guesses) on how each division in the NFL will end up. We are going to start off with the NFC East since we are Eagles fans.
NFC East – Considered by many experts to be the toughest division in football since all for teams, Eagles, Giants, Cowboys, and Redskins having a legitimate shot at winning the division.
1. N.Y. Giants – The Giants go into this season as the defending NFC East Champs, and they couild repeat as champs in 2009. They have a beast at RB in Brandon Jacobs, if he can stay healthy. They also have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. The Giants do have a couple of questions:
1. Which one of their young receivers will step up
2. What effect of a new contrat will have on Eli Manning.
Prediction: 11-5
2. Philadelphia Eagles – Before the preseason started the Eagles were being picked to win this division, but now there are just too many questions.
1. What effect will the losses of Jim Johnson, and Stewert Bradley, and Brian Dawkins have on the defense?
2. Will the starters on the Offensive line be health enough to play?
3. Will having Michael Vick be a good or bad thing?
4. Will the offense be as dangerous as it looks on paper?
Over the last few seasons the Eagles have gotten off to slow starts and made their push in November and December, right now it looks like this season will be the same.
Prediction: 9-7
3. Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys said goobye to a few of their under acheivng stars, Terrell Owens, Roy Williams, and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, so they won’t have some of the problems they had last year. Tony Romo still hasn’t show he can handle the pressure at the end of the season. They do have a good running game with Marion Barber, and Felix Jones, and one of the best TE in the NFL in Jason Witten. How WR Roy Williams plays could determine how well the Cowboys do.
Prediction: 9-7
4. Washington Redskins – The Redskins surprised quite a few people in the first half of Jim Zorn’s rookie season as head coach, starting off 6-2. Unfortunately they finished the season 2-6, thats not a good sign going into the 2009 season since they really haven’t improved much in the off season. Jason Campbell is still a question mark at QB, and will Clinton Portis stay healthy. Chris Cooley is a dependable TE, their WR’s though really don’t scare anybody. Will their defense be good enough all season to keep them in games?
Prediction: 8-8
Next Up: NFC North
