Thanks to a combination of historic collapse and historic comeback between the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals, the Philadelphia Flyers will be facing the Boston Bruins in the second round of the NHL Playoffs. Flyers fans have to thank the Canadiens for helping the Flyers avoid playing the Capitals in the playoffs, and now avoiding having to play the Penguins in the second round, better the Penguins face Montreal’s goalie right now than the Flyers.
Now for a little playoff history between the Flyers and Bruins. The Flyers and Bruins have met fout times in the playoffs, the first time was the Stanley Cup Finals in 1974, with the Flyers beating the Bruins and winning their first Cup 4-2. The next three time they met were in the Conference Semi-Finals in 1976, ’77, ’78. The Flyers won 4-1 in 1976, but the Bruins won 4-0 in ’77, and 4-1 in ’78. You can see its been a long time since these two teams have met in the playoffs, 32 years to be exact. It should be a fun series to watch. It will bring back some memmories for those Flyer fans who can remember the last time they met.
