When your team is 1-5 since the all star break, and is having problems scoring runs, a manager shouldn’t allow his starting pitcher, no matter how well he is pitching, to bat in the top of the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two out. It usually is the perfect time for a pinch hitter, with a pinch hitter, no matter if its a left or right hander, gives you a better chance of either getting a hit or better yet drawing a walk, which would have given the Phillies the lead, and maby a much needed win against the Cardinals. Charlie Manuel didn’t do that, and it cost them, since in the bottom half of the inning Blanton gave up the go ahead run to Matt Holliday, and three insurance runs in the next inning. To this Phillies fan it definitely looked like Manuel threw in the towel. Should Phillies fans throw in the towel on the 2010 season? On the bright side Eagles training camp opens in less than a week.
