If you saw the hockey game between the Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Flyers you may have seen one of the dumbest rules in hockey. The rule was made in 2008 after Sean Avery made a stupid move by waving his arms in front of Devils goalie Martin Broduer. If it was any other goalie the NHL might not have made this rule, then again Avery was the only player The Sports Den heard of doing that so why make a rule because of him?
The Flyers had a powerplay in OT and Chris Pronger was in front of the net, he made a waving motion with his left arm, there is debate on whether or not he was trying to obstruct the view of Calgary’s goalie or trying to direct where the puck should go. The ref made no call when this happened, he waited until the puck went into the net, Pronger’s hand was back on his stick before the puck was shot, which makes this call look that much worse. The Sports Den understands the reasoning behind the rule, but it still doesn’t make any sense since a player can still try and block the goalies view by standing in front of him, go figure.

* Actually according to the rule in order for what Pronger did to be a penalty he would have to be facing the goalie, he wasn't therefore shouldn't have been a penalty. Just a screw up by a rookie ref.
