The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have given local boy James Van Riemsdyk a six year contract extension reportedly worth $25.5 million. Van Riemsdyk would have become a free agent at the end of the 2011-12 season. The Flyers will take a cap hit of $4.25 million each year of the contract. The Sports Den wonders wether JVR will be around at the end of the contract considering the fact that signing extensions with the Flyers doesn’t guarantee anything, just ask Jeff Carter, and Mike Richards.
