Interleague play kicked off this weekend with the Phillies taking a trip down I-95 to take on the Baltimore Orioles. Usually The Sports Den posts a recap after each game, but this weekend The Sports Den is going to do something just a little bit different, we are going to give a little recap of each game in one post. Star of the Game:
Shane Victorino, Phillies – 3/4, 1 HR, 1 2B, 5 RBI’s
Game 2 – Saturday June 9 2012:
Orioles 6 – Phillies 4 (12) – Even though the Phillie shad three solo homers from Jimmy rollins, Jim Thome , and Hector Luna, the Phillies still lost thanks to a sloppy fourth inning where they committed three errors the led to 2 runs for the Orioles, and injuries to the bullpen that forced Charlie Manuel to use a rookie relief pitcher making his big league debut, B.J. Rosenberg one inning too many. After a scoreless 11th, Rosenberg gave up a leadoff hit in the 12th, then a home run to Adam Jones to end it. Phillies drop to 29-32, seven games out of first.
Star of the Game :
Adam Jones, Orioles – 2/6, 1 HR, 2 RBI’s
Game 3 – Sunday June 10, 2012:
Orioles 5 – Phillies 4 (10) – Cliff Lee took the mound and again failed to pick up his first win of the season. In years past you would figure if you gave Clff Lee a three run lead it was as god as gold, but not this year. Lee had a 4-1 lead on Sunday and then made one mistake and it was gone. So, for the second straight game the Phillies and Orioles would go extra innings. The Phillies failed to score in the top of the 10th. After an error by Ty Wigginton allowed Adam Jones to reach base, Matt Wieters the ball to the top of the right field wall that allowed Adam Jones to score from first and end the game. The Phillies drop to 29-33, and also drop to eight games out of first, and worst, are ten game back in the loss column.
Star of the Game:
Matt Wieters, Orioles – 3/4, 1 RBI.
