Here is a quick recap of the series between the Phillies and Cardinals that the Phillies won 2-1.
Game 1 – Friday August 10
Phillies 3 – Cardinals 1– Chase Utley’s two run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead going into the ninth inning. Roy Halladay held the Cardinals to 1 run on 2 hits in 8 innings to pick up the win and improve to 6-6, and Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 25th save. Phillies improve to 51-61.

Game 2 – Saturday August 11
Cardinals 4 – Phillies 1– The strange season of Cliff Lee continued with a 4-1 loss to the Cardinals. Again Lee didn’t get much in the way of run support, one run to be exact. Lee took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning before giving up a three run homer top Matt Holliday that basically sealed the deal. The Cardinals added an insurence run in the eighth to close out the scoring. The Phillies drop to 51-62, and Cliff Lee still hasn’t won a game at Citizen’s Bank Park this season.

Game 3 – Sunday August 12
Phillies 8 – Cardinals 7 (11) – The Phillies got a break in the bottom of the first when a blown call at third base on Chase Utley’s triple, allowed them to get a 3-1 lead after one inning. The Cardinals had a 4-3 lead goin into the bottom of the fourth when Ryan Howard tied it at 4-4 with a solo home run.The Cardinals looked like they put the game away by taking a 7-4 lead in the top of the eighth, but the Phillies tied it back up at 7-7 on Erik Kratz’s three run homer. Juan Pierre won the game with an infield hit that scored Jimmy Rollins in the bottom of the eleventh. The Phillies move into fourth place in the NL East and get closer to avoiding losing 100 games with a 52-62.
