The Phillies put a giant exclamation point on their final meeting of the season with the Mets by beating them 16-1 and completing the series sweep. The Phillies knocked Mets’ starter Jeremy Hefner out of the game before he could record an out by putting up 8 runs in the first, and for good measure put up another 7 runs in the top of the ninth that was topped off by Ryan Howard’s 12th career grand slam. The Phillies are now 2 games above .500 at 76-74, and remain 4 games back in the wild card race.
