It looks like there will be realignment in the NHL in 2013/14. According to the NHL the NHLPA has already given it’s consent to the plan, and now is awaiting for approval from the Board of Governors. The plan consists of two conferences, Eastern 16 teams, and Western 14 teams, and four divisions. The Red Wings and Blue Jackets would move to the Eastern Conference with the Winnipeg Jets going to the West. The playoffs would still be 16 teams but they are considering a wild card system that would see the top three teams in each division make the playoffs with the last two spots filled by the two teams in each conference with the next highest point total.
