The first game of the series between the Phillies and Braves was delayed two hours due to rain. The delay didn’t seem to bother Cole Hamels who picked up his first complete game of the season. Hamels went the distance giving up just 1 run on 6 hits, walking 1, and striking out 9 in the Phillies 5-1 win. The Phillies were clinging to a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth when Cody Asche gave Hamels some help hitting a three run homer to put the Phillies up 4-0. After the Phillies added a run in the top of the ninth the Braves would finally get to Hamels to avoid the shutout. Congrats to Charlie Manuel on his 1,0th career win as a manager. The win snaps the Phillies 11 game road losing streak. The Phillies are now 53-65.
