The Phillies take game 1 from the Mariners 4-1 and snap a two game losing streak. Jerome Williams ( 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) made his first start at Citizen’s Bank Park and picked up his first win as a Phillie. Ken Giles struck out the side in the eighth, and Jonathan Papelbon pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his 29th save. The Phillies had a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth when Andres Blanco hit a three run homer to put the Phillies up 4-0. The Mariners avoided being shut out by scoring a run in the eighth. The Phillies improve to 55-70, and the Mariners drop to 67-57.
