The Phillies played the roll of spoiler by beating the Nationals on Friday night 8-2 to push the Nationals a little closer to being eliminated from the playoffs. Jayson Werth gave the Nationals an early 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the first. For something completely different Aaron Altherr (4) hit an inside the park grand slam home run in the third to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead. Aaron Altherr (5), and Darin Ruf (10) hit solo home runs in the fifth to make it 6-1 Phillies. Jayson Werth’s (12) solo home run in the sixth cut it to 6-2 Phillies. Cody Asche’s (12) two run homer in the eighth ended the scoring and made it an 8-2 final. The Phillies are now 58-96, and the Nationals drop to 78-75.
