Game 1: The two days off due to rain didn’t help the Phillies much as they dropped the first game of a day night double header to the Nationals by the score of 6-2. Scott Kingery put the Phillies up 1-0 in the first with a home run. Juan Soto tied in the bottom of the first with a RBI single. The Nationals took a 2-1 lead in the fourth in a Gerardo Parts RBI double. Brian Fisher put the Nationals up 3-1 in the fifth with A RBI double, then made it 5-1 with a two run homer in the eighth. Gerardo Parts followed Rosier with a solo home run to make it 6-1. Brad Miller had a RBI triple in the ninth to make it 6-2, and that is how it ended. Phillies (39-33): HR – Kingery (9). RBI – Kingery (22), Miller (5). Nationals (34-38): HR – Dozier (11), Parra (5). RBI – Dozier 3 (27), Parra 2 (20), Soto (42).
Game 2: The good news, Jake Arrieta (6-6) held the Nationals to just 2 hits, and 1 run in six innings. The bad news Max Scherzer was better holding the Phillies scoreless in seven innings giving up 4 hits, and striking out 10 with a black eye, and broken nose. Brian Dozier, and Victor Robles homered to give the Nationals a 2-0 win and the sweep of the double header. Phillies (39-34). Nationals (35-38). HR – Dozier (12), Robles (10). RBI – Dozier (28), Robles (29).
