When you are in a battle to get into the playoffs you can’t afford to split a four game series with a team like the Reds who are just playing out the string. That is exactly what the Phillies did. The Phillies dropped the series finale 4-3 in eleven innings to the Reds on Thursday afternoon splitting the four game series 2-2, and now have two teams (Cubs, D’backs) ahead of them in the race for the final wild card. Rhys Hoskins gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead with a RBI double in the fourth. The Reds took a 3-1 lead in the sixth on home runs by Jose Iglasias (11), and Eugenio Suarez (41). Adam Haseley cut it to 3-2 with a RBI single in the seventh, and J.T. Realmuto (22) tied it 3-3 with a home run in the eighth. Nick Vincent came into the game in the eleventh and surrendered the game winning home run to Phillip Ervin (6).
