
After being swept by the Braves on Sunday’s double header the Phillies unloaded on Braves starter Sean Newcomb early and earned a split with the Braves after a 13-8 win on Monday night. The Phillies offense roughed up Newcomb for 8 runs in jus 1.1 innings. Bryce Harper (3) started it off with a three run homer in the first. Then after Travis d’Arnaud cut it to 3-1 with a solo home run off Aaron Nola ( 8 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 K, 1 HR, W 1-1) in the top of the second the Phillies erupted for 7 runs in the bottom half. Roman Quinn (1) homered to make it 4-1, J.T. Realmuto’s RBI single made it 5-1, then Didi Gregorius’ (3) grand slam made it 9-1, and Jean Segura (1) homered to make it 10-1 Phillies after two. After J.T. Realmuto’s (5) two run homer in the fourth, and a Braves fielding error in the fifth the Phillies were up 13-1. Nick Pivetta came in to the game in the ninth and almost single handedly surrendered a twelve run lead. The Braves roughed up Pivetta for 6 runs on six hits in just a third of an inning. Tyler Kelly was able to get the final two outs, and the Phillies hung on for a 13-8 win. Sean Newcomb was optioned to the Braves alternate training site after the game.
