President of Baseball Operations for the Phillies Dave Dombrowski announced the hiring of Sam Fuld as the new Phillies G.M. Fuld spent eight (2007-15) years as a player with the Rays, Cubs, A’s and Twins. Fuld joined the Phillies in 2017 as their Major League player information coordinator integrating analytics into game planning, and served as Gabe Kapler’s outfield instructor. He was recently became director of integrative baseball performance (sports science), hopefully he doesn’t rely on analytics too much. The Phillies also promoted Jorge Velandia to assistant general manager, and Terry Ryan to special assistant to the G.M. Ryan was G.M for the Twins, and has been a special assignment scout for the Phillies since 2016. Let’s see what they do first.
