Its twelve days to the NHL trading deadline and one of the biggest questions is where will Flyers Captain Peter Forsberg end up? The have been talks between Forsberg and Flyers management since he has a no trade clause. Everyone expects Forsberg to be traded since the Flyers are basically out of the playoff hunt. What team or teams are interested in Forsberg’s services are still unclear. Forsberg becomes a free agent at the end of this season, which means when the playoffs are over, so ther is a chance the Flyers could trade him, then resign him next season. Here at the Sports Den we have a different take on this. Its our opinion the Flyers should just resign him now and not trade him. The Flyers traded Peter Forsberg before and it didn’t work out. If anyone can remember he was traded by the Flyers to the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche for Eric Lindross. Nobody new then how it would work out, but now you can say it didn’t work out too well for the Flyers. Forsberg won 2 Cups with the Avalanche, and Lindross batlled injuries most of his career, but then again so has Forsberg. It appears now that Forsberg may have solved his problem with his skate, and is it any coincidence that the Flyers are now playing their best hockey of a long hard season? Watching the Flyers defeat the Detroit Red Wings this past Monday,their best game of the year by far, why would you want to trade him? The fans have watched some pretty bad hockey this season, and now with them playing much better management might pull the rug out from under. The Flyers haven’t won a game this year without Forsberg. The most they could probably get is either a draft pick or a journeyman players who has been bounced around the league, and if Forsberg is offered more money by the team he is traded to then next year doesn’t look as good. So, just bite the bullet on this one and re-sign him now, he is still one of the best players in the NHL.

NOTE: After this was posted Peter Forsberg was traded to the Nashville Predators for D Ryan Parent, LW Scottie Upshall and 1 first round pick, plus a conditional 3rd round pick,depending on whether Forsberg signs with Nashville for next season.
