Something happened on Saturdat night that won’t get talked about in ths sports sections of newspapers, or sports talk radio in the Philadelphia area. Instead what they usually talk about is everything negative, and how Philadelphia hasn’t had a championship in 23-24 years. What happened on Saturday night was the Philadelphia Kixx won the MISL Championship, it is their second, yeah it probably got some notice, a little paragraph in the corner of the sports section nobody reads. No the Kixx aren’t considered a major sport in this city, not like the Phillies, Flyers, 76ers, and Eagles, but they are a Philly sports team.

The last “major” championship that was won in this city was the 76ers winning the NBA Championship in 1983. The Sports Den did a little research into how many “other” championships were won, the one’s everyone ignores. Here is a list of the teams and years when they won a championship since 1983 in no particular order. Its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Philadelphia Stars – Football – USFL CHampions -1984

Ok lets do a little math, thats a total of 14 championships in the last 25 years. That works out to0 be 1 championship every 2 years, how many other cities can say that? So Philadelphia has won championships in the last 24 years if you can look past the Flyers, 76ers, Phillies ,and Eagles. Here is a list of the 4 major sports teams, the last time they won a championship, and how many years since that championship.

Philadelphia Phillies – 1980- 27 years
Philadelphia Eagles – 1960 -47 years
Philadelphia 76ers – 1983 -24 years
Philadelphia Flyers – 1974-75 -32 years

Maybe its just that Philly sports fans have been paying attention to the wrong teams.
