So Mark Cuban is thinking about startying a new football league to rival the NFL. What would make Mark Cuban think he will be able to compete against the NFL when every attempt to do this has failed. Look at the old AFL that was started by Lamar Hunt, after a few years it folded and merged with the NFL. The we had the WFL in the early 70’s, yeah some NFL players jumped ship hoping to get a big payday, guess what, it folded. Then we had the USFL, they tried something different, spring football, yes some playwers that would have made it in the NFL went to the USFL first, that didn’t help the USFL eventually went bellyup. The last attemp was a real joke. WWE owner Vince McMahon tried to compete against the NFL with the XFL. I think he learned his lesson, just because he had success with pro wrestling, if you can call it that, didn’t mean he was going to have success in football, the XFL folded after one season,maybe ratings had something to do with that.

Could it work? Sure it could , but it would take a few years, and the biggest problem with that is, most of the players they would draft would use the new league just as a stepping stone to get into the NFL. The best way for it to survive is to come to some sort of agreement with the NFL to be a developmental league. Yes the NFL already has one in NFL Europe, but they may go along with the idea of having one here in the states. The odds are they may start it an dafter a few years it will fold just like the rest.
