Its only the first day of free agency and Flyers G.M. Paul Holmgren has been a very busy man . First he was able to sign Daniel Briere away from the Buffalo Sabres with a 8 year $52 million contract. Good thing the salary cap went up to $50 million, if there is a salary cap, then he made a trad withthe Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers get Joni Pitkanen, Geoff Sanderson, and a third round pick in the 2009 draft and the Flerys get D Jason Smith and RW Joffrey Lupul. you have to give Holmgren an A for effort in trying to turn a team around that finished dead last in the NHL this pas season. Consider the fact that he basically raped the Nashville Predators (Think they were having a fire sale?)when he sent Peter Forsberg to Nashiville to Ryan Parent and Scottie Upshaw and a first round pick in this year draft, then sent that pick back to Nashville for Scott Hartnell and Kimmo Timonen. Yeah this looks good on paper especially if any of their draft picks can step up and play right away, doubtful, so Flyer fans will have to wait a couple of months to see how this works out on the ice, but at least it won’t be the same team as last year.
