Bow Hunting Supplies: The Tools for Success

Hunting has become an expensive investment for any hunter. For a newcomer, deciding on what type of equipment to get is a daunting task. Doing some research will be a time and money saver before even stepping foot into an archery store. The first decision to be made will be the type of bow, there are four major choices:

* Stick bows

* Recurves

* Compound bows

* Cross bows

In addition, every newcomer will probably need the following supplies:

* Sights

* Arrows

* Restrings

* Scopes

* Hunting gear cases

Aside from the bow, the most expensive, and possibly the most important tool a hunter will need is the scope. These vary greatly in price, from $50 to $250, and the quality is often reflected in that price; the better the lens, the higher the price.

There are many great options in between those two figures for the hunter to choose from. Doing a search in Yahoo! or Google with the scope name, and “reviews” will allow the hunter to determine if it’s a scope worth his money. Scopes though, are generally only necessary for doing a lot of target shooting. There are standard and tree sights available that often serve the hunter much better than a scope.

Another great investment a hunter will need to make is his bow case. There are a few different types to choose from based on each hunter’s needs. Hard bow cases are very durable, and can often carry two bows, many arrows, scopes and other supplies. They are often waterproof, and protect all your equipment from damage. These cases are great for travel, though the downside is that they are often impractical for hauling to a hunting sight.

Soft cases are the best available for that job. These cases are much smaller, often carrying just one bow and only a few supplies, but for this reason they are much easier to haul through the woods. A hybrid case is the last option available to the bow hunter. These cases are a mix of the two types; made of a harder, yet lightweight material. They are usually waterproof and easy to maneuver.

The best thing the new hunter can do is research to make the best equipment. Buying a cheap case will result in damaged tools, giving him faulty aim and headaches. Be sure to do as much research online, looking at reviews by other hunters, and talking to the expert at your local archery store.
