It was one of those games where the Flyers grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory in a Monday matinee against the N.Y. Islanders. The Flyers were looking for the sweeps of the home and home, and season series against the Islanders. It was looking good with the Flyers taking a 3-1 lead into the third period thanks to 2 goals by Matt Read, and a goal by Wayne Simmonds. Unfortunately the Flyers ran out of gas in the third, and the Islanders tied it up 3-3 to send it into OT. The Islanders outscored the Flyers 3-2 in the shootout to come out with the win, and avoid the sweeps. Flyers goal scorers; Matt Read 2 ( 13), Wayne Simmonds (17). Islanders goal scorers; John Tavares (23), Brock Nelson (8), Kyle Okposo (20).
