The Phillies opened up a three game series with the Reds on Monday night to kickoff the eight game road trip. Phillies starter Cole Hamels came into the game not having lost to then Reds, that was about to change. After Ryan Howard gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a RBI double the Reds responded by scoring the next three runs to take a 3-1 lead after three. Carlos Ruiz made up for his brain cramp in the second by tying the game 3-3 with a two run single in the top of the fourth. The Phillie’s had a chance in the top of the sixth to do some damage, first they had second and third with no out, then the bases loaded with one out but couldn’t score. In the bottom of the sixth Ivan DeJesus Jr, that name should sound familiar to Phillies fans, put the Reds up 5-3 with his first career home run. Zack Cozart put the icing on the cake with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 6-3 Reds. Thanks to a wild pitch by Aroldis Chapman in the ninth the Phillies scored a run to make it a 6-4 final in favor of the Reds. The Phillies drop to 22-37, while the Reds get to within six game of .500 at 25-31.
