The National League leading St. Louis Cardinals came to town to open a three game weekend series with the Phillies. There was a chance this could be an ugly series, and when it was announced that Cole Hamels would skip Friday night’s start with a hamstring problem, and Phillippe Aumont would get the start it became ugly. The Cardinals pounded Aumont, and Justin De Fratus for 13 hits and 12 runs in 6 innings and cruised to a 12-4 win. The only thing Phillies fans had to cheer about was a three run homer by Ryan Howard after the game was already out of reach, and a squirrel that decided to drop into the Phillies dugout that made for some comic relief. The Phillies drop to 22-46, and the Cardinals improve to 44-23.
