The Phillies avoided the sweep with a 9-2 win over the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. It turned out to be a great Father’s Day for Adam Morgan’s father who watched his son make his big league debut, and pick up his first big league win. After getting pounded in the first two games of the series the Phillies turned the tables and roughed up Cardinals starter Michael Wacha for 8 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings. The Phillies took a 3-0 in the second, and after Jhonny Peralta cut it to 3-1 with a sole home run in the fourth the Phillies responded with six more runs over the next three innings that included a Andres Blanco three run pinch hit home run. Jason Heyward ended the scoring with a solo home run in the ninth. The Phillies are now 24-47, and finish the season series with the Cardinals with a 2-5 record while the Cardinals drop to 45-24.
