The Phillies are ending their ten game road trip with a weekend series in San Francisco against the Giants. The game was billed to be classic pitchers duel between the Phillies Cole Hamels, and the Giants Madison Bumgarner. It started out that way but quickly turned into a one sided laugher. The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the first, and the Phillies tied it in the top of the fourth on a Carlos Ruiz home run. Then it happened, the Giants pounded Cole Hamels in the bottom of the fourth for 8 runs, capped off by a Hunter Pence Grand Slam that ended Hamels’ night. The brutal beating the Giants’ hitters inflicted on Hamels didn’t stop there. The Giants would then bash the Phillies bullpen for another 6 runs over the next four innings to come away with a 15-2 win. The Giants set an AT&T Park record for hits with 22, and had a season high for runs in an inning with 8 in the fourth. There is a bright side to this for the Phillies, at least they weren’t shutout for a third straight game. The Phillies fall to 29-60 while the Giants improve to 44-43.
