The Phillies opened up a three game series with the Diamondbacks on Monday night. The Phillies swept the Diamondbacks back when they met in Philly. The Phillies were looking to extend that winning streak against the Diamondbacks, and their current three game winning streak. Neither of those things happened. The Diamondbacks pounded the Phillies by the score of 13-3. The Phillies scored first on a sacrifice fly by Chase Utley in the top of third. The lead didn’t last long. Paul Goldschmidt’s RBI single tied it in the bottom half of the inning. Yasmany Tomas (7) put the Diamondbacks up 2-1 with a solo home run in the fourth. Cesar Hernandez tied it 2-2 with a RBI double in the top of the fifth. The Diamondbacks took a 5-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Paul Goldschmidt sacrifice fly, a RBI double by David Peralta, and a solo home run by Welington Castillo (15). Maikel Franco (13) put the last run on the board for the Phillies with a solo home run in the sixth to cut it to 5-3. The Diamondbacks put the game away with a six run sixth to go up 11-3, and A.J. Pollock (12) ended the scoring with a two run homer in the seventh. Aaron Harang picked up his 11th loss in his last 12 starts, and the Phillies fall to 45-68. The Diamondbacks get back to within a game of .500 at 55-56 with the win.
