The Phillies come back came up a little short as they fall to the Red Sox in game 1 of their weekend series 7-5. After Xavier Bogaerts gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single the Phillies scored a pair of runs in the fourth on a Darnell Sweeney ground out and a Darn Ruf RBI single to take a 2-1 lead. The Red Sox scored a pair runs in the fifth on a Mookie Betts RBI double, and a Brock Holt sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead. It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh. A Jackie Bradley home run, a Xander Bogaerts ground out, a David Ortiz double, and a Travis Shaw single gave the Red Sox a 7-2 lead after seven innings. after a Odubel Herrera two ruin homer, and a Aaron Altherr RBI double cut it to 7-5 Ryan Howard came to the plate with a chance to tie it up. Unfortunately Howard would strikeout
to end the game. The Phillies drop to 53-82, and the Red Sox are now 62-72.
