The Eagles weren’t going to go undefeated but The Small Sports Blog didn’t think their first loss would be 24-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. You can take your pick of things that cost the Eagles this game. The way the defense played in the first half allowing the Lions to score TD’s on their first three drives of the game. The fourteen penalties the Eagles committed. The two turnovers, one, a fumble by Ryan Mathews late in the fourth quarter when the Eagles were trying to run out the clock after fighting back to take a 23-21 lead. The second, Carson Wentz’s first interception on the first play after the Lions took a 24-23 lead. The play calling late in the game that led to the two turnovers, especially Wentz’s interception on a deep pass instead of using shorter passes to get into field goal position. Then again if the Eagles would have scored a TD instead of a field goal after Mathew Stafford’s fumble the Eagles might be 4-0 instead of 3-1. Next up hopefully a big win over the Washington Redskins.
